One of the most physically demanding treks, but with the most spectacular views in the area due to the proximity to Mounts Fitz Roy and Torre and different glacial valleys. An experience that will allow us to experience the nature and environment of this National Park in all its splendor.
The weather in Patagonia is very changeable and the wind can be very strong. The days can go from sunny to rain, hail and even snow in spring (Sep-Nov), with a daytime temperature of 15°C and 0-5°C at night. The wind can make the environment feel colder. It is advisable to come prepared for all types of weather and with good quality clothing.
El Chaltén-Vivac Piedra Negra
We start the day with a transfer to Rio Electrico, 18 km from El Chalten. From there we begin trekking through the valley towards Piedra del Fraile, a pleasant walk through the forest with very little unevenness. From Piedra del Fraile begins a very marked and continuous ascent of 900 meters of elevation to the campsite. As we climb we will have splendid views of the valley and Electric Lake, to the west the Ice Field, Cerro Marconi and different glaciers. After a great effort we will arrive at Piedra Negra, we set up camp and enjoy the views it gives us: SW faces of the Fitz Roy Range, impressive!
Bivouac Piedra Negra-Paso del Cuadrado-El Chaltén
We start the day early with a good breakfast and head towards Paso del Cuadrado. First we surrounded a lagoon and crossed a glacier, and in 1 hour we found ourselves at the pass: the view from here is impressive, the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Piergiorgio and different glaciers. We return to the camp, and after a break, we head back towards the Electric River, where the transfer back to El Chalten awaits us.
