Description
Cerro Madsen (1806 m/a/s/l), is the easiest and closest peak to Fitz Roy Range. The terrain involves steep screes, scramble, and snow slopes between 30° to 40°. Fantastic views of Piedras Blancas Glacier and the peaks!
We'll leave El Chaltén early in the morning, transfer to Río Eléctrico, from where we start the hike. After passing Poincenot camp, we will continue up to Laguna de los Tres and then up through the rocky east ridge of Cerro Madsen. Depending on the time of the year, it is common to find some snow patches above. In the presence of snow, we will most likely use crampons, ice axe and short roping.
The view from the top is possibly the best: Fitz Roy Range and Piedras Blancas Glacier really close to us!. We'll descend back the same way to El Chaltén. This is a long day, estimating from 12 to 14 hours of activity.
